Be warned: when looking for people to play-with through Duck Game's discord channels, seasoned players WILL destroy you - play with friends or sharpen your skills before attempting this. There is also a decent amount of humour scattered throughout DG: whether it's the array of bizarre weapons, the ability to go limp, the ability to pick other diseased ducks up and throw them, the parody duck news-anchor/commentator and so on. There are so many little details that compound to make this a great game, for example, in the multiplayer lobby, you can customise your duck's "room" with decorations you unlock through playing (or modding) i remember seeing indiana jones-esque temples, batman-esque caves etc. If you miss the difficulty of oldschool games that had "Arcade Modes", this game also offers ridiculously challenging (but fun) arcade challenges playing these modes introduces you to new mechanics and refines your skills (not to mention the satisfying trophies/achievements/skins). A good way to introduce friends might be to use Steam Remote Play, which just requires one of you to own the game (providing you all have an internet connection). RNG can lead to hilarious (and sometimes unfair) moments - though, the unfair moments are minimal, and happen to everyone, so it balances out that's just DG buddy!. Non-weapon items scattered around can still be useful in the field too, so being unarmed isn't necessarily a death sentence. Most weapons have pros and cons so nothing feels too OP (in the base game at least). Yes, the combat is fast-paced and easy to pick up but also the player will find that the mechanics are surprisingly layered, smooth and well thought-out. "Platforming duck shooter" really doesn't do it justice. This early eShop title is certainly worth any adventurous player’s purchase.ConfidentTsovinar's Experience Honestly, it's hard to sell this game to friends. Trine 2 is best when digested and enjoyed slowly, but even if you choose to blast through the game, you will surely have fun with its multiplayer, visuals, and puzzle design.

On the TV and GamePad, the game’s visuals pop with bright colors and exude an adventurous tone, as does its soundtrack. Marveling at Trine 2’s beauty may take up as much time as completing its puzzles.

Controller options in co-op play, however, are a little strange: the game supports the Classic Controller Pro, but not the Wii U Pro Controller. I also found the touch screen the easiest way to create and move objects. I played almost the entire game on its screen because of how heavily it utilizes the touch interface. The GamePad is the best way to play Trine 2. However, the level of coordinated teamwork the game’s puzzles often lead to is wholly unique. Characters can still get in the way of each other, especially in the process of moving objects around.

Having two characters work in unison on a single puzzle makes the experience more challenging but also more fun. Local play, however, benefits from direct communication and works well. Trying to coordinate with another player on puzzles without the aid of text or speech proved a hassle. Trine 2’s online multiplayer was a bit frustrating. Collecting every orb and chest is not necessary for the completion of game, but they often act as incentives to experiment and reach secluded sections of levels.

The orbs enhance your skills, while the chests are simply collectibles. If I found myself in a tricky situation, though, I could activate a helpful hint system at any time to point me in the right direction.Īside from puzzles, each level in Trine 2 has plenty of orbs to collect and chests to find. While most areas in Trine 2 do not force you to stray far from this formula, the game doesn’t hesitate to throw in challenging elements, including hitting switches, building pipes, and managing water, that require a more thoughtful approach. Using the abilities of the wizard, thief, and knight, the game’s three characters, you create objects, grapple over chasms, destroy walls, and more to solve each of the game’s physical puzzles. Trine 2’s puzzles are generally not that complicated, boiling down to a handful of concepts presented in different ways. This emphasis on methodical, puzzle-based gameplay is exactly what drew me to Trine 2, and I am glad it did. The game rewards those who take a more thoughtful and explorative approach.

Trine 2: Directors Cut, unlike many modern games, doesn’t encourage players to charge through levels as fast as they can.
